What's in there
iPhones embed a lot of information inside every photo they take. The most common fields:
- Make/Model: the camera (Apple iPhone 15 Pro, for example)
- DateTimeOriginal: when the shutter actually fired
- GPS coordinates: often accurate to a few meters — sometimes including altitude
- Lens info: which iPhone lens (wide / ultrawide / telephoto)
- Exposure / aperture / ISO: the camera settings
- Software: the iOS version used to take or edit the photo
Worried about GPS in your photos?
Use the strip HEIC EXIF tool to remove all metadata before sharing the photo.
How this page works
iPhones embed EXIF inside HEIC files in an ISO/IEC base media box. We decode the HEIC, extract the EXIF payload, and parse the same tag structure used by JPGs. No server is involved.
